5th International Workshop on Elastic Networks Design and Optimisation (ELASTICNETS 2018 - Valencia)

June 21-22, 2017
Universitat Politècnica de València, Spain
https://elasticnetworks.org/5th-workshop

SCOPE
The focus of this edition is set on the convergence of networks and computing.  As networks and computing converge new planning problems need to be solved by network engineers. This convergence affects all layers of networking, from the optical layer -demanding programmability and  intelligence to provision ultra-broadband capacity at any network edge while keeping maximum multiplexing ratios in the core-, through the radio access layer - where even the RF signal processing itself is pushed into the network- to the application layer - where code has become mobile, the classic concept of server is dead, and cloud and fog computing need to coexist to deliver services unimaginable a few years ago-.

The Elastic Networks research network organises this series of workshops for the discussion and exploration of all the new paradigms created by this convergence and describes the results in terms of new methods for performance evaluation, planning tools and control schemes at the optical, radio and upper layers.

Topics of relevance include but are not limited to:
·        Elastic Optical Networks (EON) and Space Division Multiplexing
·        New Control Plane Architectures, Planning and Optimisation with focus on SDN/NFV
·        Dynamically Reconfigurable Access and Metro Networks
·        Wireless and wired Network Dependability
·        IoT, Fog and Cloud Computing Orchestration and Planning
·        Mobile Edge Computing
·        Tactile Internet
·        Mathematical Techniques for Network Planning and Optimisation Accounting for Latency and Reliability
·        5G and beyond-5G technologies enabling fog2cloud
·        HetNets: Small Cell Planning and Optimisation
·        Opportunistic resource sharing
·        Network Orchestration and Management
·        Energy Efficiency in Network Design
·        Cybersecurity in hyper-connected networking

Contributions:

Two types of contributions are welcome:
·    WORKING PAPERS: Contributions of original unpublished work should be submitted in IEEE format (max. 4 pages in both MS Word and PDF format) to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. Please write ELASTICNETWORKS in the subject line when submitting your contribution. Accepted papers will be printed and distributed to the audience (no formal publication). The author will have 20 minutes to present her/his work. There will be no official conference proceedings to facilitate the discussion of on-going unpublished work.  Presentations without paper are also welcome.

·    TUTORIALS: Didactic tutorials on mathematical methods and tools for network analysis, planning and optimisation are  welcome. The tutorial proposal should be submitted in a presentation style (PDF format) to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. Please write ELASTICNETWORKS TUTORIAL in the subject line when submitting your contribution.
Accepted tutorials will be given 45 minutes of class.
